Any owner sooner or later faces wear and corrosion of his favorite objects of the external or internal interior. And so I want to give things a second life! What materials can help with this?
3 in 1 primer-enamel is a universal composition for restoring the appearance of metal structures. This is a metal-based paint that does not require a preliminary primer and performs the following functions:
- stopping the foci of rust on the metal surface and preventing its further spread;
- coating the product with a primer that promotes better adhesion with paint;
- painting with decorative enamel on the surface of the structure.
Due to the combination of functions in soil-enamel, it is not necessary to apply several layers of various materials on the product and wait for them to completely dry before applying each subsequent one. This significantly saves time and money, and also reduces the number of tools.
Most often, soil-enamel is used to cover outdoor structures: gratings, fences, gates, garages, doors and outdoor furniture. This is due to the fact that the soil-enamel is atmospheric resistant to humidity, cold and the sun. But it is also possible to use the composition for decorative purposes - for coating various interior items.
It should be noted the widespread use of primer-enamel in the repair of automobiles , especially its internal parts. Hard-to-reach places where there is constant contact with oil, steam or high temperature are easily covered with one or more layers of soil-enamel. After that, the components of the car become resistant to aggressive influences.
In industry, these compounds also found their place due to their chemical resistance to oils, aggressive media, water and steam. They are used to cover elements of industrial and building structures, hangars and warehouses.
Primer-enamel can be used not only for cast iron, steel and aluminum products. Often it is used to cover wooden, concrete, mineral and brick surfaces both inside and outside.
Ease of use, good appearance of products and availability in stores make this coating an indispensable assistant in the household.
The multifunctionality of the soil-enamel provides the presence of several components in its base.
- Alkyd-urethane varnish. This is a quick-drying composition of alkyd resins combined with urethane components. It is a binder component.
- Anticorrosive materials. Two components should be distinguished here: anticorrosive pigments that prevent the formation of new foci of rust, and modifiers (or converters) of rust that neutralize the existing corrosion. Such additives form a phosphate film in corrosive areas.
- Enamel. For the formation of a surface painted layer of the product.
- Plasticizers and other additives. Improve the working properties of soil-enamel.
- Solvent. Provides the necessary working viscosity of the material. To give the desired viscosity, the varnish is diluted with white spirit. Therefore, it is precisely it that must be used in the cultivation of thickened soil-enamels.
Manufacturers, competing with each other, constantly improve the composition of primers, produce them in a wide range of colors, introduce new additives, indicating information about this on the package.
There is an opinion that you can prepare the primer-enamel yourself by mixing the primer with your favorite paint. However, the result, for sure, will be disastrous, because mechanical mixing will only worsen the properties of both the primer and enamel. It's all about the special production technology for the production of soil-enamel, thanks to which the soil layer will adhere to the surface of the product, and the finish varnish layer will remain on the surface. For this purpose, various additives and additives are introduced into the composition.
The manufacturing technology of multifunctional soils gives them excellent qualities.
- Resistance to temperatures. It is recommended to apply primer-enamel at a temperature of 20 ° С - then the drying temperature declared by the manufacturer and material properties will be achieved. But if necessary, you can use it at sub-zero temperatures. And the applied and dried soil-enamel retains all its properties at temperatures from -45 ° C to + 100 ° C.
- Density and elasticity of the finished coating. When applied correctly, cracks will not appear for several years.
- Low material consumption. Compared with classic paints and varnishes, the consumption of soil-enamel will be approximately 30% less, even if the coating is applied in several layers.
- Atmospheric resistance. Products coated with enamel are resistant to sun, moisture, salt and oil, which makes this material ideal for refreshing a street interior.
A variety of traditional primer-enamel is hammer paint. Metal powder is additionally introduced into its composition, and the processed surface looks like processed by a blacksmith method - hence the name of the paint. It can be unmistakably recognized by its textured “shagreen” surface and metallic luster. It is also applied to rust, combining the functions of soil and enamel.
Due to metal additives, such a paint is more difficult to apply by spraying - when working with it, a brush or roller is required. Also, on vertical surfaces, there may be a movement of metal particles down, which worsens the original appearance of the product. But when applied by technology, hammer enamel looks very impressive on interior items.
The market now has a huge selection of such materials, but before choosing it is better to decide on the manufacturer and read product reviews - this will help save time, money and nerves.
Mitsar is a Russian company with 12 years of experience in the development and production of paints and varnishes. It also specializes in paints and varnishes for difficult operating conditions: with increased resistance to moisture, temperature extremes, fuels and lubricants. The range includes even fireproof plaster and a series of enamel / primers for ships (including painting the underwater hull).
It is interesting to note that Mitsar is a supplier of paints and varnishes for various enterprises under the State Defense Order. That is, the characteristics of Mitsar paints, varnishes, enamels such as heat resistance, hiding power or atmospheric resistance on the one hand fully meet the high requirements of state customers. And on the other hand (without which winning tenders is simply impossible) are cheaper than any competitors.
In other words, the Mitsar products are the lowest price in Russia for paint and varnish coatings of the level “used in defense products”. By the way, hack work is excluded in tenders of the State Defense Order; in recent years, customers have especially carefully checked the proposals of participants. Since 2015, all stages of the State Defense Order have been scrupulously controlled by the Federal Antimonopoly Service.
Among regular customers there are also sensitive facilities and complex production facilities: the United Shipbuilding Corporation national holding, Vodokanal of St. Petersburg, Lenenergo and Metrostroy. Acid-resistant and anti-corrosion enamels of the company were used in the construction of the Kola and Leningrad NPPs.
The most popular Mitsar enamel is the Spetskras model , supplied in three colors (gray, black and red-brown) in 0.8 and 25 kg packages. Compared with analogues of the type "RustoSTOP" and "Special Forces" provides 15% faster drying - only 45 minutes. The guarantee for protecting the painted surface from rust is the longest among all competitors and is 5 years. RzhavoSTOP - 3 years, Mitsarovsky Special Forces - only 1.5 years. The price per 1 kg - about 286 rubles from Spetskras from Mitsar against 400-560 rubles from peers - almost double the savings with similar quality.
It produces enamel in various containers (from 1 to 20 l). The coating is characterized by good painting properties, low consumption, good hiding power. The price for 3 liters is 700-800 rubles, for 20 liters - about 5500 rubles. Among the shortcomings, consumers note a sharp smell of paint, which makes it suitable only for outdoor use. To dilute the paint, the manufacturer recommends not white spirit, but a solvent of its own brand.
Prestige is an enterprise producing soil from the Rostov Region. To carry out small works, it is sold in a small package of 200 g, but there are also 1.9 kg packages worth about 400 r. The price is relatively small, and the reviews are mostly positive and are associated with good anticorrosive properties of enamel. It hides the existing rust well and does not allow the appearance of new rust spots. But, like many domestic enamels, it has a rather pungent smell.
It produces enamel in packings of 0.8 kg and 1.7 kg. There is a small color palette. Budget rust enamel that dries quickly and forms a nice color coating.
Before applying primer-enamel, the surface to be treated must be prepared: clean it from the exfoliating previous coating, remove large and loose foci of rust. After this, you should re-clean the product from dust and dirt and, if necessary, degrease with white spirit. All this will ensure the best adhesion of the soil-enamel, facilitate the work and provide a high-quality finish.
Important! If the previous coating was on a nitro base, then before applying the 3 in 1 enamel, it must be carefully removed using a special wash. Otherwise, the surface will swell and exfoliate soil-enamel.
Before direct use, the composition must be thoroughly mixed. Depending on the complexity and size of the surface to be treated, enamel can be applied with a brush, roller or spray gun. Small parts can be dipped.
Before covering the entire structure, it is advisable to try painting a small area to assess the correct color selection and the quality of the finish layer.
The average consumption of material per m2 is 80-120 ml for one layer. The number of layers applied depends on the degree of protection and the desired effect and ranges from 1 to 4. Each manufacturer indicates on the packaging recommendations for soil consumption and the application procedure for the product.
The drying time of the primer-enamel is short: up to the “on-stick” stage - about 30 minutes, and the time of complete drying - about 4 hours. In order for the product to be resistant to salt, water and oil, it is necessary to withstand it before use for several days (up to 7 days).
In the open air, the process of drying the soil-enamel and removing a specific smell occurs faster than indoors. Therefore, manufacturers recommend painting the base on the street or in a ventilated space.
