Gilding is one of the most popular molding techniques. These decorative elements fit perfectly into the classic style, making the interior bright and luxurious. They provide antique stylization of buildings, make them warmer and more sunny. With their help, you can place accents. Gilding of stucco elements is carried out using different materials, it is necessary to understand the features of this technology.
By decorating stucco molding is meant a change in its color palette. For perfect gilding, certain skills and aesthetic taste are required. There are several methods of gilding, most of them are simple to implement, provide a vivid embodiment of an artistic idea.
The following materials are used for stucco decoration:
Decorating with gold leaf is the most expensive technique. Gold stucco molding gives the rooms a luxurious and status look. Such decorative elements can often be found in interiors designed in the Baroque and Empire style. Tinsel is a thin sheet of gold. Even the hair is thicker. This is an expensive material by which surface gilding is performed. This method is chosen by people who strive to achieve perfection in the interior, who do not accept compromises.
Before applying tinsel, the surface is ground. Then apply the polymer, providing the effect of gloss. Gold-plated gilding is similar to gold leaf. The difference is only in the main material: sheets of gold are replaced by potala, which is a foil that does not contain precious metals. There are several varieties of potali: gold, silver, bronze. Molded elements, decorated with potal, look almost as beautiful as gold plated. The differences are noticeable exclusively to professionals.
Gilding with paint is the most budget option. Gypsum stucco is coated with a water-based acrylic composition. This type of paint is the most popular, because it contains a large number of metal particles. Silicone and latex dyes are used to process polyurethane stucco moldings. This material does not tolerate solvent exposure.
Before painting, gypsum stucco is coated with a primer, and then a background coating is applied. Polyurethane products are decorated immediately after cleaning the surface from dust. And in one and the other case, after the dye has dried, the stucco molding is varnished for protective purposes.
Acrylic-based gilding paints have maximum saturation. Due to the presence of metallic inclusions in them in high concentration, the gold color looks like real. When using other types of dyes, the imitation is not so reliable.
The hue of gold is light and dark.
Acrylic paint has a creamy or liquid consistency, it is also produced in the form of sprays. The advantage of the spray is that it does not require a brush to apply it. Gold paint is applied by spraying. This eliminates the formation of stains on the surface, the dye lies evenly. Paints having an acrylic base, used to decorate gypsum stucco, are also sold in powder form. When breeding, they are guided by the instructions.
How to make?
For gilding stucco with your own hands, you need to stock up with the necessary tools and materials to perform this work. The main task is to correctly draw the elements, you need to act very carefully. To color the stucco, prepare supplies. Making leaf gilding is a difficult process. The following tools help to successfully cope with this procedure: suede cushion, lampenzel, polisher.
Using a suede cushion, the leaf leaves are removed from the book and cut with a gilding knife. Lampenzel is needed to carry fragments. An agate tip polishing device creates a glossy effect on products. If the plans decorate with gold leaf the entire surface, then the mordan is applied around the entire perimeter, it is poured into the recesses. If necessary, glue the protrusions with gold to cover only them.
The process of applying potala includes:
- stripping of stucco elements;
- Mordan application;
- decoration with a drop;
- gilded surface treatment;
- applying a layer that performs a protective function.
Particular attention is paid to surface preparation. The primer mixture is applied in 2 layers. It takes half an hour to dry each.
It is recommended to use tweezers to move the sheets that have fallen, since they stick to your hands.
After a few months, the potal on the stucco molding can change color, become darker. To prevent this, gilding is covered with shellac. It protects the decorated areas from adverse external influences, maintains the true luster of gold.
Acrylic-based dye is applied in a thin layer. It takes about 40 minutes to dry. At the final stage, the product is varnished. When restoring stucco decoration, the remnants of the old coating must be removed. Gold paint lasts a very long time, if necessary, the stucco molding can be restored.
Gypsum stucco molding is an exquisite decoration that transforms the interior. Molded products contribute to the creation of a special atmosphere, successfully fit into different styles. There are several techniques for artistic decoration of gypsum sculpting. Stucco molding gives the chance to stylize ordinary houses under palaces and castles.
