Clematis is greatly appreciated by both gardeners and landscape designers. This is a very bright flower, the appearance of which attracts attention throughout the summer. The Stasik variety is very popular, it is used both in private areas and for decorating city streets. We will talk about its features, cultivation and care rules in our article.
Bred this variety Maria Sharonova in 1972. The name he received in honor of the grandson of the breeder.
It belongs to the classical shrubby vine and represents the family of buttercups. The length of the stems can be up to 4 meters. Leaf petioles plant clings to the supports, rising up. The height of obstacles can be up to two meters.
According to the description, the variety has thin brown stems, which are very durable. The leaves are predominantly simple, sometimes trifoliate, but this is more an accident than heredity.
Large flowers can reach 12 centimeters in diameter, they look very impressive on thin stems.
Flowers open very widely, and their sepals slightly overlap. It looks very beautiful, as it seems that the flowers strew the stems almost completely.
The opened buds have a cherry hue, but over time it brightens, acquiring a red and purple tint. Below are contrasting white stripes. Anthers are dark purple. Clematis begins to bloom in the first month of summer.
Each of the varieties of this plant has its own pruning group. This is influenced by the nuances of the formation of generative buds of shoots. Clematis "Stasik" has a third group. It is composed of late-flowering specimens that branch quite densely. Shoots are cut off at a height of about 0.2 to 0.5 meters, in front of a second or third pair of buds.
Almost all varieties of this plant, which have the ability to bloom in the summer, undergo such pruning. It is needed so that the growth does not get out of control, but is clearly limited. If the shoots die off, they also need to be removed. And also shoots that are located at a height of 10 centimeters from the ground are cut off.
In order for a plant to grow well and flourish, it needs to create comfortable living conditions. As for clematis of this variety, it requires moderate illumination, although it is drawn to light. However, excess sunlight can harm Stasik . If the flower grows in northern or moderate latitude, placement in a sunny area is understandable, but in the south it will require partial shade. However, in any case, avoid open spaces.
Clematis do not tolerate drafts. In winter, especially in open areas, the wind can blow away snow cover, and this threatens to freeze open generative buds. In turn, this situation leads to a lack of flowering in the coming year.
For this plant, light soil, saturated with nutrients, is suitable. On clay or loamy soil, it cannot fully develop.
It will also be useful to follow acidity - the best option, if it is 6-8 pH.
For clematis "Stasik" lowlands are not the best place. He does not like humidity, in addition, groundwater should also not be too high. Their maximum rate should be at the level of 1.2 meters. When this condition is not possible, a drainage system should be considered.
Planting vines occurs depending on the purpose. If they should be located on a large plot, it is best to plant them in an even row, retreating from each other about 70 centimeters. The location on the support should provide uniform illumination of each instance. If the plant should envelop a wall of any building, it should be located at least 60 centimeters from it, and the support can be installed directly on the wall.
However, there are some nuances. Some people own metal fences that get very hot in the sun.
If the task of the plant is to decorate such a fence, the support should not be placed too close. Contact with hot metal will result in thermal burns of clematis.
This liana is frost-resistant. She copes well with lowering the temperature to -35 degrees Celsius. However, we must not forget that preparing for the winter is a prerequisite. A well-prepared plant can feel good even in northern latitudes.
In order for the plant to tolerate winter well, it will need warming. You can use humus, sawdust, straw or fallen leaves. The thickness of the shelter should be at least 30 centimeters. It should be removed by the end of February.
How to plant and care?
It is recommended to plant this vine in spring or autumn.
If the procedure is planned at the junction of March and April, it must be borne in mind that the kidneys should not have time to bloom. And also this year, the plant will be damaged by flowering. To prevent it from happening, the buds that are forming should simply be cut off.
Autumn planting involves a procedure in late August or early September. You need to plant it before it gets colder on the street so that the plant has time to adapt, and the roots begin to develop in the spring. Rooting becomes a guarantee that the vine will bloom next year, so planting should not be postponed.
Fertilizers must be added to the ground in advance to fill it with nutrients. This is done 2-3 months before planting. If we are talking about spring planting of flowers, top dressing is carried out before the onset of frost. It is best to use humus.
Seedlings can be either annual or biennial. First you need to select the appropriate instances. For this, it is necessary to pay attention to a number of factors.
The roots should be more than three, and the minimum indicator of their length is 10 centimeters. Strong stems should be from two or more, and on each of them should be located kidneys. If planting occurs in the spring, the buds, which have not yet blossomed, should be at least two, and in the fall - at least three developed.
Before planting, the root system must be dried. After that, the sapling is dipped in warm water for 6-7 hours with the addition of rooting agents, among which, for example, Epin or Kornevin can be used. Growth stimulants will also benefit. For prevention, root treatment with a weak potassium permanganate solution right before planting is suitable.
The landing pit should be square in shape with a length of each side of 60 centimeters. At the bottom there is a drainage system up to 15 centimeters high. For it, you can use gravel, pebbles, broken brick. After that, the soil is filled up to the middle.
Loamy soil will require the addition of sand and humus. If the soil is loamy, you will need to fill in, except for humus, peat and sand. All components should be taken in equal quantities.
In order to mineralize the soil, it is necessary to fill in 1 liter of wood ash and 100 grams of slaked lime per planting hole. The procedure is carried out in advance.
The seedling is placed on a mound of soil, then its roots are carefully straightened. Height to ground level should be 5 to 15 centimeters. The hole is filled up with soil and a little tamped, and in the immediate vicinity a support is placed.
Immediately after planting, the soil must be mulched. You can use straw, sawdust or grass for the procedure. In the case when the soil is deficient in nutrients, peat can be added.
Watering and feeding
Immediately after planting, the plant must be watered. After this, the procedure is repeated in the evening, approximately 1 time in 3-5 days, on hot days a little more often. Water should flow right under the root. It is very important not to fill the clematis, the soil should just be well moistened.
Feeding is carried out 4 times a year. Both organic and mineral fertilizers are used. The first procedure is done in early spring. The second comes when the buds begin to form, and the third when they fade. The last fertilizer application takes place in September. Gardeners do not recommend fertilizing during the flowering period, as this can significantly reduce it.
Stasik clematis can be propagated by layering or by dividing the bush. Seed propagation is not possible.
In the first case, the procedure is carried out in the spring. Side layers are pressed to the ground with brackets so that at least one kidney remains after them.
She is sprinkled with soil. A young stalk appears next season, is cut off and planted in a new place.
In the second case, it is necessary to divide the bush into 2 parts with a shovel. One of them, along with the roots, just landed in a new place. It’s not worth worrying over the period of adaptation, the plant takes root perfectly.
