Modern technologies can minimize the size of household kitchen appliances. Increasingly, instead of a full-sized stove, a gas hob is installed, which allows significant savings in useful area. But it’s not enough to acquire such a variant of technology. It still needs to be installed. How to properly integrate a gas hob into a countertop?
Features and nuances of installation
The installation rules prescribe that any work on connecting or relocating the location of gas equipment must be carried out in accordance with applicable standards, rules, warning the gas services about replacing the heating device. When buying a panel, it is better to immediately clarify how it is attached to the countertop. The material of the foundation itself also matters, if it is possible to cope with chipboard yourself, it is better to entrust the insert into the artificial stone to professionals.
Cooktops can be easily integrated by yourself. The main thing is to correctly mark the countertop on which the installation is performed. If the panel is bought for a ready-made headset, it is worth measuring the available width and thickness in advance, especially when the furniture module is non-standard, it was created to order. Usually installation dimensions vary in the range of 55-57 cm. It is worth considering other important points:
- the eyeliner should be connected to the pipe before installing the headset - this will simplify the fastening of nuts;
- installation of the bellows hose should not be carried out directly through the valve, but through a fitting or plumbing fitting;
- when forming a compound, linen winding is necessarily applied, coated with a paste for gas;
- in the presence of electric ignition, the network connection point should be withdrawn in advance;
- to increase the level of safety, a valve with a thermal shut-off element can be inserted into the pipe, which is triggered when the temperature reaches 80 degrees Celsius;
- the hole cut out in chipboard or wood should be carefully lubricated with sealant on the sides;
- by default, hob jets for main gas supply are included in the package for hobs; they must be purchased separately to connect to a cylinder / gas tank.
Insert into the countertop: measurements and cutting
Before cutting a technological hole, it is worth examining the documentation provided by the manufacturer. For branded hobs, the marking process is described in detail in it, a template or size for the cut is given. For working with wood, it is worth preparing a jigsaw and drill with a drill. After tracing the contour, holes exceeding the width of the cutting blade are drilled at its corners, a file of the desired length is immersed in them.
The easiest way to form a contour is to attach the panel to the countertop. The contours are drawn around with a pencil, after which the cut is performed. A more complex version will require the calculation of the center, from which the axles will be laid for the exact landing of the gas cooking platform.
Before starting the sawing, the edges of the cut are pasted over with masking tape to prevent the formation of chips. From below, in order to prevent failure, burning of material in the area of its sawing, it is necessary to install and fix clamps. Sawing is best done using the laser level to accurately measure the line. The jigsaw is held in a straight line, from corner to corner.
How to fasten?
Before embedding the gas hob in its intended place, it should be properly prepared. The nozzles included in the kit are installed in the technological holes, a plumbing bracket with a sealing gasket is attached. A nut is fixed at the entrance, a flexible eyeliner is attached to it (it must be drawn through the cut). Next, special mounting rails that are included in the package are fixed on the panel, and installation is performed according to the following scheme:
- the cut edges are treated with a sanitary sealant, laid with a sealant;
- the hob is placed in place (in the cut), leveled;
- the fasteners located below cling to the countertop, are tightened;
- excess sealant is cut with an edge knife;
- After checking the reliability of fixation, commissioning can be carried out.
It is important to remember that all the cuts and technological holes in the headset design are made before mounting the panel, and not after it, otherwise there is a great risk of encountering a problem with access to the internal surfaces of the cabinet.
How to conduct a test run?
After the hob gas panel is installed in its intended place, connected to the line, care should be taken to start it and check the tightness of the formed connections. To do this, open the gas valve (shut-off valve), check for leaks by ear and smell. If no problems are observed, you can proceed to alternately turn on the panel burners. It is important to consider that the first time air comes out of the burners.
The pressure in the line is not too high, so it is worth counting on for up to a minute, after which gas should go from the burner. After all the valves have been checked for operability, you can install a supporting grid on the surface to place the dishes and use all the features of the cooking unit in the normal mode.
If there is an electric fire-ignition system, additional connection of equipment to the power system may be required . To do this, it is necessary to provide in the access zone the presence of a moisture-proof outlet, which ensures uninterrupted power supply.
The main criterion for the correct and accurate installation of the hob is compliance with safety requirements. The built-in gas equipment must be located in such a way that it can be connected to the main pipeline. The distance between the panel and the pipe can vary due to the use of flexible eyeliner. The distance from the riser is not regulated, but the regulations provide for:
- maintaining a distance of at least 20 cm from the side of the heating source to the mounting point of the shut-off valve;
- with standard wiring, the connecting nipple should be at the same level with the point of insertion into the pipe;
- at the top connection, the height of the tap blocking the gas supply must be at least 1.5 m from the floor.
Norms and Distances
During installation, a special bellows hose in a metal braid, with special clamping nuts and gaskets, is necessarily used. Additionally, special winding, pipe sealants are used.
When tightening the nuts, the applied force should be monitored. The use of flexible connections, the use of twisting with a wire or the connection of drives with metal clamps is excluded.
What do you need to know?
When installing the gas hob in the countertop, be sure to maintain a distance to the edges of the surface. It should be at least 5 cm on each side, otherwise when cutting it will be possible to destroy too thin a wall. The thickness of the countertop itself also matters. It is not recommended to install built-in equipment in a structure thinner than 38 mm due to low bearing capacities.
To check the tightness of the connections when starting gas, a soap solution is used. All nuts and joints are densely covered with them, checking these places for the presence of swelling bubbles - they indicate a leak.
Before starting full-scale operation of the plate, it should be checked its operation with different adjustment modes. In none of them should the flame go out - this is very dangerous. If, while trying to check the change in burning intensity, the adjustment does not change the supply of blue fuel, you need to turn off the stove, contact the service center or the seller. Possible defective goods. Proper installation of a gas hob in a countertop in an apartment or a private house allows you to comply with all standards and ensure the efficient operation of the equipment.
