Security measures are a very important thing both in the household and in the workplace. A rather large role is played, of course, by respiratory protection. And in order for it to be performed correctly, you should familiarize yourself with information about carbon respirators, about their real capabilities.
The very idea of creating a device that would interfere with the effects of harmful substances on the respiratory system has been around for several centuries. With the earliest prototypes appeared in the XVI century. And some experts believe that everything started even earlier. The first practically working respiratory protection constructs appeared at the end of the 18th century. Initially, for a long time it was not possible to deal with the filter, or rather, to select its optimal performance.
And only in the second half of the XIX century it became clear that the best option is a coal respirator . A design similar to modern designs appeared in the USA in 1879 , although a number of experts dispute this. One way or another, respirators are simple and convenient devices for respiratory protection.
They help to avoid exposure to aerosol suspensions, dust, even some gases. But one does not have to rely on protection from highly toxic substances.
Respirators are more comfortable than gas masks due to their lower resistance to breathing, and therefore are more popular. Such respiratory protective equipment can be used:
- in a variety of industries;
- in military affairs;
- in the mining industry;
- on construction;
- in the energy sector;
- at various emergency rescue operations.
Device and principle of operation
The respirator is relatively simple . The front element is in the format of a mask or half mask. Additionally, a filter part is provided. In the simplest version, we are talking about a cotton-gauze design , in which the half mask performs the function of a filter. The downside is that such a device does not help with strong dusting, as well as with the appearance of even small amounts of gaseous toxins.
A more advanced design involves the use of replaceable filters . A covering mask is provided in whole or in part. Air is supplied by breathing valves. The type of filters is determined by the purpose and type of protective equipment. Sometimes a glass overlay is added to the eyes.
Where is it used?
Respirators are used when air contains a large amount of dust or smoke. In production, they are needed to compensate for the effects of emissions of harmful substances, the formation of fumes. At home, a coal respirator is used when you need to paint something, use pesticides, insecticides, and carry out disinfection. Using such devices, medical workers and rescuers prevent contact with pathogenic organisms and toxins.
Most often, respirators are used in:
- food industry;
- chemical industry;
- production of building materials;
- extinguishing fires;
- elimination of accidents.
What are they?
Often there are reusable RPDS . They are designed for permanent or systematic stay in places with severe pollution. Filters can be replaced as needed. You can also use several modifications of filters at once , which allow you to protect yourself from a wide range of harmful factors. With short periodic use, it is better to buy a disposable device. It is inexpensive, but very effective.
The execution of the front part is also important. Half masks are more mobile than full-fledged respiratory masks. They can involuntarily shift even during conversations.
A shift is possible all the more with active physical work, with a constant change of position.
How to choose?
The most important parameter is compliance with the types of threats. Anti-aerosol filters help protect against vapors of powder and water-based paints. But if sprayers are to be used, the respirator should have additional protection against vapors of organic substances. It is very important to pay attention to the filter markings.
So, A1P1D prevents the action:
- dust suspensions;
- smoke and fog.
B1P1D protects against inorganic gases and various fumes. But it will not save from aerosols and carbon monoxide. E1P1D stops the action of acidic gaseous substances and dust suspensions.
K1P1D will help to be in the atmosphere of ammonia, derived substances, as well as in various suspensions and mists. For long-term work, you need to use a full mask, which also reliably protects the organs of vision.
It is worth considering that certain series of protective equipment were developed for:
- woodworking industry;
- cement plants;
- agricultural work;
- glass wool manipulations;
- work in especially difficult conditions (with forced air pumping).
Storage and Care Features
Even the best RPPS will not work if they are used incorrectly. Periodically, respirators should be washed and disinfected. Elastomeric models require careful maintenance according to the instructions. Before wet cleaning, filters, intercoms, valves, hoses and other parts are removed. After washing, wipe and dry the device.
Possible storage conditions:
- otherwise, maintaining the initial form;
- strictly in one layer;
- ideally in a plastic bag or bag.
