Aloe is a decorative home plant that grows and develops well in the climatic conditions of our country. There are a huge number of varieties of this flower, one of the most famous is the variegated aloe variety (or brindle). Such a plant is quite unpretentious in care, so many gardeners and amateurs breed it. What is this botanical plant, how to properly care for the flower and how aloe propagates, we will consider in our material.
Motley aloe was brought to Russia from distant South America. There, this plant grows in natural conditions, in particular - on stony soils. In nature, aloe of this variety can reach 35 centimeters in height. In general, the plant has a large number of useful properties, which is why it has become so popular. So, aloe is often used in traditional medicine.
The tiger species of the plant differs from other subspecies of aloe by some characteristic features. For example, botanists distinguish an unusual growth process, as well as the original arrangement of leaves. These elements of the plant, having a spiral arrangement, grow in 3 rows. The leaves are quite large: 15 cm in length and 5 in width.
The second important feature of motley aloe is its coloring. Despite the fact that the base and primary color of the leaves is green, they are covered with bright spots along the entire length. Thanks to these marks, this aloe variety got its unusual name. Like other types of such a flower, tiger aloe at the edges of its leaves has small and slightly pronounced spikes, which are a kind of visiting card of the plant.
Variegated flower is able to bloom. In spring, flowers on a long stalk are knocked out of the center of aloe. Their color is yellow-orange, and in size the inflorescences themselves reach 3 centimeters.
However, it is important to note that flowering processes occur only in mature plants no younger than 3 years old.
Despite the fact that aloe is an unpretentious plant, in order for it to develop and delight with its flowering, it is necessary to comply with some conditions of its maintenance, as well as follow the recommendations of flower care specialists.
First of all, attention should be paid to the temperature regime. It is believed that the optimum temperature for the existence of a flower during the period of development and flowering is 22 degrees Celsius. If possible, the thermometer should be kept constant at this level. As for the cold season (when the plant is at rest), then a suitable temperature would be 10-12 degrees Celsius.
If we talk about air masses, then motley aloe can be kept in the air in the warm season.
Nevertheless, care must be taken to ensure that the flower is not in a draft.
An equally important condition is water regime and watering. The amount of liquid must be varied depending on the time of year (as well as the temperature regime). So, in spring and summer you need to water aloe 1 time in 7 days. In the colder season, watering should be significantly reduced, and the soil should be moistened once every 3-4 weeks.
Attention must be paid to another significant indicator of the environment - atmospheric humidity. Such an indicator should be no more than 40%. A higher level of humidity can lead to disastrous consequences - aloe may die.
To ensure that air enters the plant and its healthy appearance, it is recommended to wipe the leaves weekly with a damp cloth. Thus, you will save the flower from dust and dirt accumulated on its surface.
Tiger aloe is a photophilous plant. Therefore, a flower must necessarily provide a sufficient amount of lighting. Advantage is preferably given to natural sunlight, and in its absence, it is necessary to establish artificial lighting using special lamps or LED strips. A significant plus in the care of variegated aloe, which simplifies the content of this flower, is the lack of need for pruning.
If we talk about the introduction of fertilizers and top dressing, it is important to note that if possible, aloe should be fertilized all year round. In the warm season, this procedure is recommended to be carried out once a week, and in winter - once a month. It is important to note that complex fertilizers for succulents are most often used as top dressings (usually such compounds are saturated with mineral substances).
In addition, ash, humus, as well as various vegetable decoctions and infusions are usually added to the land where aloe grows.
Before planting a plant, you need to pay special attention to the soil in which you will place the aloe sprout. At will, land can be bought at any flower shop or prepared independently. One way or another, it is important that the soil is loose and light. As for the composition of the earth itself, it should look like this:
- compost (ideally, it should be rotted);
- sand with large grains;
As additional additives, botanists suggest using turf or leafy soil.
In order for the flower to take root, the planting process is recommended to be carried out in the spring. The procedure itself includes several stages:
- the bottom of the pot must be laid 2 cm away with a drainage layer;
- on top you need to pour the prepared soil mixture;
- Now you need to carry out a small watering;
- then a germ is placed on the soil;
- if necessary, the soil is added from above and another irrigation is carried out.
When planting a plant, it is important to pay special attention to the container in which you plant variegated aloe. So, the ideal option is to use a flower pot made of ceramic or clay. But it is not recommended to take plastic containers - the flower is quite heavy in weight, so a pot made of plastic or plastic can easily tip over, which, in turn, can lead to the death of the flower.
It is also important to remember that the pot is quite wide, but the depth can be average.
If necessary, be sure to make drainage holes.
How does it breed?
Tiger aloe can be propagated in two ways: using shoots or using seeds. Consider both methods in more detail.
This method is preferred by beginner growers, as it is quite simple to implement. For its implementation, it is necessary to take shoots, the length of which should not be less than 7 centimeters, after that they must be dried 24-48 hours without fail.
Then the bases of the shoots need to be greased with charcoal and a specialized root. Next is the landing process. It is imperative to use a support, to which a young shoot is attached. Within a week, the plant will take root in the soil.
Reproduction of motley aloe seeds is considered more laborious and longer. Before you place the seeds in the soil complex, you need to soak them in an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate. In order to place the seeds in the ground, they need to be pressed a little inward. After that they need to be covered with a film. In such a greenhouse, the seeds should be kept until the first young leaves appear. However, it is important to remember the fact that the film must be periodically opened to avoid condensation.
Thus, observing all the rules for caring for a flower, you can get a healthy and incredibly beautiful plant that will bring benefits and joy to all family members.
