Motoblocks "Cascade" have proven themselves from the very best side. But even these reliable and unpretentious devices sometimes fail. It is very important for the owners to determine the causes of the failure, to figure out whether it will be possible to solve the problem on their own or not.
The unit does not work or is unstable
It is logical to begin the analysis of possible breakdowns with such a situation: the Cascade walk-behind tractor starts and immediately stalls. Or completely stopped starting up. The most likely causes are:
- excess gasoline (the humidity of the candle speaks of it);
- in models with an electric starter, the problem often lies in the discharge of the battery;
- the total motor power is insufficient;
- there was a malfunction in the muffler.
The solution to each of these problems is quite simple. So, if a lot of gasoline is poured into the gas tank, the cylinder must be dried. After that, the motoblock is started with a manual starter. Important: before this, the candle must be twisted and also dried. If the manual starter works, but the electric one does not, then you should charge or replace the battery.
If the engine does not have enough power for normal operation, it must be repaired. To reduce the likelihood of such a breakdown, it is only necessary to use gasoline of impeccable quality. Sometimes, due to poor fuel, the carburetor filter gets clogged. You can clean it, but it’s better — let’s say it again — to perceive such an event correctly and stop saving on fuel.
Sometimes you need to adjust the carburetor KMB-5. Such devices are placed on lightweight walk-behind tractors. But because of this, the importance of their work does not decrease. After repairing a failed carburetor, only suitable brands of gasoline should be used to flush individual parts. Attempts to remove contaminants with a solvent will result in deformation of the rubber parts and washers.
Assemble the device as carefully as possible. Then bends and damage to parts will be excluded. The smallest parts of the carburetors are cleaned with a thin wire or a steel needle. Be sure to check after assembly whether the connection of the float chamber and the main body is tight. It should also be assessed if there are any problems with the air filters or if there are any fuel leaks.
Actually, carburetors are adjusted either in the spring, when the walk-behind tractor is first rolled out after the "winter holiday", or in the fall, when the device has already worked for a very long time. But sometimes they resort to this procedure at another time, trying to eliminate the shortcomings that have appeared. A typical sequence of steps is as follows:
- warming up the motor in 5 minutes;
- screwing to the limit of the adjusting bolts of the smallest and greatest gas;
- twisting them one and a half turns;
- setting the gear levers to the smallest stroke;
- setting low revs using the throttle;
- loosening the (slightly) gas screw to set idle speed - with a continuously running motor;
- engine jamming;
- assessment of the quality of adjustment by a new launch.
To eliminate errors in the carburetor adjustment process, each step must be checked with the operating instructions. When the work is done normally, extraneous noise will not appear in the motor. Moreover, failures in any of the operating modes will be excluded. Then it will be necessary to observe the sounds that the walk-behind tractor makes. If they differ from the norm, a new adjustment is needed.
Manual Starter Issues
Sometimes it becomes necessary to replace the starter spring or even the entire apparatus as a whole. The spring itself is placed around the axis of the drum. The task of this spring is to return the drums to their original position. If the mechanism is looked after and not pulled too actively, the device has been working quietly for years. If a breakdown occurs, you must first remove the washer located in the middle of the drum casing.
Then they remove the cover and carefully examine all the details. Attention: it is better to prepare a box in which the removed parts will be laid out. There are a lot of them, besides they are small. After the repair, it will be necessary to install everything back, otherwise the starter will stop working altogether. In most cases, it is necessary to replace the spring or cord, but a conclusion about this can only be done by visual inspection.
Although the Cascade walk-behind tractors are equipped with strong cords, a gap cannot be ruled out. But if the cord is relatively easy to change, then when replacing the spring, you must ensure that the connecting hooks are not damaged. When replacing the starter, the entire filter first covers the flywheel. This allows you to get to the internal parts of the device. After removing the casing, unscrew the screws holding the basket.
The following steps are as follows:
- loosening the nut and removing the flywheel (sometimes you have to use a wrench);
- loosening the keys;
- installing a generator with wires in the holes on the motor wall;
- placement of magnets in the middle of the flywheel;
- connection of parts to fixing bolts;
- installation of a crown (if necessary - using a burner);
- returning the assembly to the motor, screwing in the keys and nuts;
- mounting the mechanism basket;
- fixing the insulating casing and filter;
- setting the starter;
- connecting wires and terminals to the battery;
- test run to verify system health.
Problems in the ignition system
If there is no spark, as already mentioned, carefully check the battery. When everything is in order with him, the contacts and the quality of isolation are examined. In many cases, the absence of sparks is associated with a clogged ignition system. If everything is clean there, look at the contact connecting the main electrode and the cap of the candle. And then the electrodes are checked sequentially, evaluating whether there is a gap between them.
A special probe allows you to determine whether this gap corresponds to the recommended value (0.8 mm). Remove carbon deposits accumulated on the insulator and metal parts. Check the candle so that there are no oil stains. All must be removed. Pulling out the starter cable, dry the cylinder. If all these steps do not help, you will have to change the candles.
This procedure is carried out only on a cooled motor. The metal expanded from heating will not allow it to be carried out correctly and accurately. You will have to wait about 3 or 4 hours. It is recommended that you first blow the motor with a stream of compressed air, and ideally, wash it. Having disconnected the wires from the candles, unscrew the bolts from the resonator. The resonator itself will have to be removed, while acting as carefully as possible so that the mount remains in place.
Disconnect the PCV valve and power steering bolt. Using round-nose pliers, the ventilation stroke of the block head is dismantled. Unscrew the bolts securing the cover of this head. Thoroughly wipe everything to eliminate contamination. Remove the timing cover.
Turn the wheels to the left until they stop. Remove the nut from the crankshaft, the shaft itself is twisted strictly counterclockwise. Now you can inspect the valves and measure the gaps between them with probes. To adjust, loosen the lock nut and turn the screw, making the probe slip into the gap with little effort. After tightening the locknuts, the gap must be re-evaluated to prevent it from changing during tightening.
Work with a gearbox (gearbox)
Sometimes there is a need to fix the speed switch. Oil seals change when faults are detected immediately. First, cutters located on the shaft are removed. Purify them from all pollution. Remove the cover by unscrewing the bolts. They put a replaceable oil seal, as necessary, treat the connector with a portion of sealant.
Sometimes on Cascade walk-behind tractors you need to replace reverse gear belts. Usually they resort to it if it is impossible to adjust the tension due to strong wear or a complete break. Important: only those belts that are adapted to a specific model are suitable for replacement. If you put the wrong accessories, they will quickly become worn out. Before replacing, turn off the engine, putting it in zero gear.
Remove the insulating casing. Worn belts are removed, and if they are extremely stretched, they are cut off. After removing the outer pulley, pull the belt over the remaining pulley inside. Return the item to its place. Carefully check that the belt is not twisted. Put back the casing.
Very often it is necessary to disassemble the trigger to get rid of its malfunctions. Problem springs are optional. Sometimes they simply anneal the tip of the part with burners. Then the file reproduces the desired contour. Then the attachment of the spring and drum unit comes back to normal. It is wound on a drum, a free edge is laid in a slot on the fan housing, and the starter drum is centered.
Bend the “antennae”, cock the drum counterclockwise, release the spring cocked to the end. Combine fan and drum holes. Insert the starting cord with the handle, tie a knot on the drum; the tension of the released drum is held by the handle. The launch cord is changed in the same way. Important: all these work are easier to do together.
If the gearshift knob breaks, the twisting head is removed from it, knocking out the pin with a punch. Unscrew the screw, remove the sleeve and the retaining spring. Then remove the remaining parts that interfere with the repair. Replace only the problematic parts of the gearbox without disassembling the entire device. They also do it when you need to remove the ratchet.
If the shaft has flown, then only devices with a suitable length, diameter, number of teeth and sprockets are purchased for replacement. When the speed control sticks (or, conversely, is unstable), you need to turn the screw that sets the amount of the mixture. As a result, the speed drop will no longer be sharp, forcing the regulator to open the throttle. To reduce the risk of damage, you need to take care of the proper maintenance of the walk-behind tractor. Maintenance (TO) should be carried out every 3 months.
